"Susan" came to us after being clean and sober only 68 days. She had been abusing prescription medications and alcohol. Luckily, she had checked herself into a shelter up in Ventura to treat her drug addictions and mental illness. "Susan" had studied to become a nurse and in fact had an AA degree in nursing. She had been working as a nurses assistant until she was no longer able to hold down a job. Upon entering Crisis House, she quickly obtained SSI and saved a large portion of a lump sum settlement she received. She began studying for her state RN exam. "Susan" continued with us in recovery and counseling while saving her money and studying for her RN exam most of one year. She eventually returned to full time employment as a medical receptionist earning a living wage. She was again allowed to see her three children unsupervised. She was again happily involved with them as a clean and sober mom, taking them to baseball and softball games and meeting with their teachers at school. Finally, after close to 10 months,"Susan" rented a two bedroom apartment close by with the money she earned from full time employment. "Susan" remains to this day clean and sober. Her children stay with her several days each week and she is still actively involved with them in a positive way. She is still studing for the state RN exam which she hopes to pass in 2005. She is a true sucess story. Family #1..... Crisis House met this family at St. Albans Tent City, there was know drug use with this couple. They had their young child taken away, due to their drug addiction, with intense Case Managment efforts of the staff at Crisis House, Inc. The first step was to get them into a detox center. That didn't work. A lot of tough love and more intense case managment went into effect ,this couple went into treatment. On behalf of Crisis House with the collaboration of various agencies and a strong case manager this family is now in a program with their daughter and both are clean and sober for over a year, and are working full time jobs.
This Family is still apart of the case managment program at Crisis House, Inc. Family #2..... When Crisis House, Inc. met this family they had been evicted from their apartment due to non-payment of rent. They had a little infant with them while living in their car. The family went to The Case Managment Program with Crisis House, at which point a referral was made to a shelter, within 26 days and the collaboration with a local apartment complex Chisis House was able to get this family into their own apartment. A child that had been removed from home has been returned. This family remains in their apartment both parents are working and to this day, family remains in contact with Crisis House, Inc.
